5-cents a Meal

Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal,” a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. Over the years, presbyteries have developed similar programs entitled Pennies for Hunger, Nickle-A-Meal, etc. Many of these programs benefit local hunger ministries as well as the national and international projects of the Presbyterian Hunger Program. (PHP).
The Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd participates in an offering to support the “Presbyterians’ Answer To Hunger” program (PATH). Each month, church members are asked to contribute 5 cents for each meal during the month. Good Shepherd regularly receives this offering on the 1st Sunday of each month – Communion Sundays – as a reminder that as we have been fed at the Lord’s table, we are called to feed others.
Central Florida Presbytery voted this year to change this offering, formerly 2 cents per meal, to 5 cents per meal. You are encouraged to continue to send your 5 cents per meal offering to the church during this time.
One day = 15 cents
One week = $1.05
One month/30 days = $4.50
The PATH Offering recipients are:
– The Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network (www.endhunger.org)
– The Second Harvest Food Bank (feedhopenow.org)
– A.I.R. Guatemala (www.airguatemala.org)
– Madagascar Fruit, Vegetable, Environmental Education (FVEE mission)
Thank you for sharing your gifts and helping feed those who are hungry.
